TWRP 2.8.6.0 Released [Changelog,Installation Instructions]

    TWRP 2.8.6.0 is out now for the OnePlus One.

    What is a Recovery ? :- A custom recovery is flashed onto the recovery partition of the device and overwrites the stock recovery that exists by default. Custom recoveries bring lots of functionality and give you the ability to perform wipes, install flashable zips, create full backups of your NAND (Nandroid backup), and various other features.

    What’s new in 2.8.6.0:

    • Fix daylight savings time rules for USA and Europe (_that)
    • Allow mulitple overlays for popup boxes (Dees_Troy)
    • Add pattern style password entry for decrypt (Tassadar)
    • Keyboard improvements (_that)
    • Update AOSP base to 5.1 (Dees_Troy)
    • Reduce theme count to 5 and rely on scaling (Dees_Troy)
    • Various scaling improvements (Dees_Troy)
    • Improved handling of resources in the GUI (_that)
    • Make scroll bar size proportional to list size (_that)
    • Allow scoll lists to render without a header (_that)
    • Make console scroll per pixel with kinetic scrolling (_that)
    • Support styles in XML to reduce XML size and improve consistentcy (Dees_Troy)
    • Various other fixes and improvements (mdmower, bigbiff, codelover, etc)

    Installation Methods (Official)

    METHOD 1 :- [NOT WORKING AT THE MOMENT]

    App Install Method (Requires Root):

    1. Download the "TWRP Manager (ROOT)" app from here :- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
    2. Open the app and grant root access.
    3. Some pop up messages will appear.Always click "NO".
    4. Swipe finger from the left of the screen or Touch on the top-left corner to open the Menu,if not already opened.
    5. Click on "Install TWRP"
    6. Select your device (OnePlus One bacon) after clicking on the "Device Name" option.
    7. Click on "Recovery Version to Install".
    8. Select "2.8.6.0 openrecovery-twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img"
    9. The recovery will be downloaded and will be installed automatically.

    NOTE : TWRP 2.8.6.0 is not showing there at the moment.So better try other methods or wait for a day or two.

    METHOD 2 :-

    TWRP Install (Requires TWRP 2.8.4 or higher already installed):
    1. Download the latest TWRP image file (.img) from here :- http://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img
    2. Power off the device.
    3. Boot into TWRP (Power+Vol.down) .
    4. Click "Install"
    5. Click "Images..." (bottom right corner)
    6. Browse the recovery image that you downloaded and select it.
    7. Click "Recovery"
    8. Swipe to Flash.
    METHOD 3 :-

    Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required)(Unlocked Bootloader Required,obviously) :

    1. Download Android SDK from here :- http://dl.google.com/android/installer_r24.1.2-windows.exe
    2. Install the SDK to a folder on the desktop and open it.
    3. You will see a window like this :- sdk.JPG
    4. Select only "Android SDK Platform-tools"
    5. Select "Install 1 Package..." and wait till it finishes installing.
    6. Download the correct image file from here :- http://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img and copy the file into the "platform-tools" folder in the folder where you installed SDK Tools.
    7. Rename the recovery image to twrp.img (Make sure you don't rename it as recovery.img.img)
    8. Windows users will also need proper drivers installed on the computer.Download them. You can try the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don't already have a working driver installed.
    9. After completing above step,on your OnePlus One,go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings.
    10. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging.
    11. From your computer, in the "platform-tools" folder, open a command prompt (Shift+Right Click anywhere in the "platform-tools" folder -> Open command window here) .
    12. Type:
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader
      Press Enter
    13. The phone would now be in the fastboot mode.
    14. In the command prompt,now type :
      Code:
      fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
      Press Enter
    15. In the command prompt,now type :
      Code:
      fastboot reboot
      Press Enter

    Flashify (Requires Root) :
    1. Download Flashify app from here :- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
    2. Open it and Grant Root Access
    3. Click on "Recovery image"
    4. Click "Choose a File"
    5. Select the twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img (Download link :- http://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-2.8.6.0-bacon.img)
    6. Click Yup!

    installed it using unofficial method... reboots and stays in TWRP... doesn't allow me to reboot the system. :(

    had to delete the data and system and re-install my ROM to get my system back up.

    Guys It is recommended to use Official Method 2 if you already have TWRP Recovery installed. Incase you observe any issues,reflash the old TWRP the same way. :)

    Well I have tried all the above methods and none gave an error to me.I don't know how that happened to you.2nd official method is though the most secure and fast method.
