Is TWRP suppose to back up everything on the /data partition? After I restored from backup, I lost all my photo, and some other files. I thought TWRP backup use dd to backup the whole partition image which should have all my data include, am I right?

By default, I do not believe it backs up media data partition (SDext or whatever it's called in this case).

Did you select to back up photos when you created your back up?

I just tried the TWRP (mine is 2.8.6) and took a screenshot. Guess what the screen shot is failed!

    Anyway @iamelton is right. There are one 4 options: /boot, /system, /data, and /cache.

    So the /data doesn't include /sdcard/* ?

So this is so misleading when people talk about nandroid backup. It does not backup EVERYTHING, at least for the newest v2.8.6.

    1. I just lost "all" my data due to this (for me) clearly missinformation. I would not hurt anybody to put in information there, that the internal card where much important data is stored, is not backed up too!

    2. It is absolutely not the same as in windows! If you backup drive C:\, there is EVERYTHING inside! Documents (and the rest in the library) is just a redirection of C:\Users\"User"\...

/data is app data. Don't get confused.

Also, that is why you should use Google photos. Free unlimited storage in the cloud.
