[UK] 5G signal where it's available

    Ice_machinE , Feb 4, 2021 :
People who are living in the UK and are on a company that provides 5g services (I know about 3 and EE), so you have 5g signal where it's available? If so, what's your OOS version? And did you have to do any tampering with the software to get 5g?
I'm asking specifically for the UK because I heard there might be a world problem with 8/8pro and 5g reception.
    Thank you.

    Hey,

In general you're carrier will need to whitelist your device/simcard currently for 5G. Usually they only do this for devices they sell themselves. So itt would be best to check with them as well.

Thank you, that's why I wrote 3 and EE because I know they sell OP phones.
I wanted to know if those companies users needed to do something manual to their software in order to enable 5G to work.
Full disclosure: I'm an admin in one of the biggest Facebook groups for OP in Israel and I want to ascertain issues I hear from my users that they think the 5G problem in Israel with OP devices is device based or mobile service provider based.

I'll wait for someone UK based to answer then.

For other EU counties, the bands used in the EU model of the OP align with the frequencies used by the networks so it should not be an issue. The biggest issue I see currently is like I mentioned, the whitelist. Same goes for stuff like Volte and Vowifi on these networks.

Also Full disclosure from my side, I'm closely on contact with someone setting up the 5G network in Belgium. In tests, the OP8 worked so far on their test setup.

There is no 5g in settings when a O2 sim card is fitted in a OnePlus 8t but 5g is available in the settings when a Vodafone or Three sim is fitted. Obviously OnePlus doesn't support O2 for some reason.

    Here’s what I can confirm:
The OnePlus 8 devices work on the same 5G band that the O2 5G network
operates on – so the device is technically capable.
O2 have not tested this device on our network and currently have no plans to.
This is common for devices we do not range in our portfolio, and isn’t specific
    to OnePlus devices.
We’re unable to give specific reasons as to why OnePlus have not enabled
O2’s 5G on their device, but this was not an O2 decision.
There’s no reason why 2G, 3G or 4G won’t work on the new OnePlus device,
though I must stress that O2 have not tested this device on our network so we
cannot confirm whether these work correctly or not. We would perhaps
suggest referring to OnePlus’ return policy if you purchase the device and it
doesn’t perform on the O2 network as expected.
    What I cannot confirm:
If or when the OnePlus 8 will support O2 5G – this is down to OnePlus and not
    O2
When OnePlus will release a software update that enables O2 5G to work on
the device – any such update would come directly from OnePlus themselves
and isn’t something we have any influence over.

I'm not too far from Nottingham, and as for the Sherrif of Nottingham She Elizabeth Fradd is currently doing fine

As for 5G, I'm on the Three Mobile network, with an 8T and where 5G is available it just goes to 5G with no changes in settings required- my sim card is almost 7 years olld

Can anybody confirm the 5G will work with O2 on the OnePlus Nord? Now it has Android 11.

My OnePlus 9 doesn't allow 5G with O2(GiffGaff) without the workaround in the UK. With the workaround it works fine.
Interestingly, if I put the same SIM into a Realme X50 or the Poco F3, 5g works without issue and they are significantly cheaper devices. Not a good show OnePlus.

No it doesn't work. I can force it 5g by typing in some code. I did that today and got 5g on Giffgaff (o2). When you restart the phone it loses 5g connection again. At least I know the phone works on o2, it looks to me that Oneplus have hidden the 5g selection for whatever reason. It would be a simple update fix for them, so I suspect some politics being played out here....why I don't know, they are just pissing off their customers!

    You can possibly enable 5G:
    1) Open Dialer App.
    2) Type *#*#4636#*#*
    3) Tap on Phone information
    4) Select NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDMA.
    5) You may now be able to use 5G.
