Depends on the launcher you are using. I am using microsoft launcher and it does not have the option.

    it's one plus launcher.
when I press and hold the app I want to uninstall , a pop up appears with options - uninstall , remove, edit
but when I move the app towards the uninstall icon , the icon disappers.

you don't need to move app to uninstall icon, just click on uninstall once the option appears

I had the same problem but then I realized that you don't drag the app icon to the uninstall icon. You just tap it. I other words click on the app until you get the different options and the uninstall trash can shows up, then let go of the app you want to uninstall (lift up your finger from it) and then click on the uninstall trash can.

The exact same solution is right above your post

Don't bump old threads if you don't have a solution or anything else useful besides "Me too" or with absolutely no details whatsoever....
This is against the forum rules which you accepted when creating your first post on this forum...
(For some reason this specific rule is not mentioned in the rules)

It is frowned upon. Old threads tend to contain old and outdated info. Reviving them is annoying because it couldn't ever be the "same" because so much had change since the old thread is based on. So digging up old threads and say I have the same issue is meaningless and completely pointless.

I understand that. I didn't see the answer. that means I didn't know there was an answer. if I thought there was no solution and I post a solution then it isn't pointless, no matter how old the post was.

It is still utterly pointless as this thread is based on Android Oreo and we are on Android Pie now. Different OS.

... the way to uninstall an app is the same in both. so whether Pie or Oreo you will have the same issue

And what problem is that exactly? You not realizing how to uninstall apps properly is not exactly a "problem".

it was not a problem exactly. it is the way to do something. it is done differently than most people are used to, so that could have been a problem. I don't want to bring up an old subject that was solved a year before I figured it out and posted. I didn't see it. I didn't mean to bump an old answer. my bad. apologies. thanks!

I am having the same issue after the Android 9 update (9.0.3) I am unable to uninstall an app from a home screen. The uninstall option appears when I hold down on an app and it turns red when I drag and drop the app on 'Uninstall', but the app is not uninstalled.
The same thing happens when I try to uninstall from the App list. The only way to uninstall now is to go to apps in Settings, select an app and then click on the uninstall button.
    thanks,
    Jesse
