    Moderator edit:

Please use this thread for any questions, SOT, tips, issues and all things related to battery and heating of the OnePlus 8.

Please note that the way you use the phone (daily usage scenarios and habits) will make a huge difference to the battery/heating performance. In a scenario where there is a heavy performance workload, such as photo shooting/video shooting/mobile gaming/video consumption, the power consumption and heating of the phone will increase accordingly, which is a normal phenomenon.

You are more than welcome to share any battery tips and tricks in the comment section and ask a forum moderator to pin your post on the first page of this thread.

Battery optimization never ends. To help OnePlus better resolve battery/heating-related issues, please submit a bug report via the Feedback Tool in the Community app. Thank you in advance.

    ---------- Original thread ----------

I'm having my settings as usual, i.e. almost no push notifications, few backgrounds processes, etc. but battery drains 9% overnight. For my 7 Pro this was 3%

Is this just a matter of being patient until the OS adjusts to my usage, or are there steps I can take to reduce standby drainage? Or is it a little bug that will be ironed out at some point? :)

I left mine for 10 hours overnight and it drained 5%.

So, what do you have running?

5% sounds more like what I would expect. I don't have much running. I have switched off background data on a lot of apps, including Facebook. I have no push-notifications and I always disable notifications on most apps. I only really get notifications for my calendars, Signal and WhatsApp. I don't use Messenger, Instagram, TikTok or any of those other popular apps.

I'm not going to make any judgements yet and give it a couple of days to settle down.

Second day, still drains 9% overnight, become 10% just from waking the screen

No location services, no bluetooth, no notifications, 4G network

I have now lost 13% and the battery usage just shows 2% wifi, 1% screen, 1% mobile network standby. No app use shown.

The way I use my phone varies a lot from day to day, but now that my issue is resolved and I trust the battery (see my next post) I reckon I'll easily get 7 hours, probably 8 if using 60Hz

I don't know if it was the latest update or just de multiple restarts I did, or just the phone and battery adjusting, but now it only drained 3% overnight, which is what I'm used to from OnePlus phones. I suspect it wasn't really draining 9%, it was just wrongly indicating that it did.

    There are many factors...
There is a thing called background optimization. It takes a long time. Also the time the phone auto adjusts towards your usage pattern matter (intelligent control).
It's also possible to manually run that background optimization via adb. That and what nightly charging actually do to your phone here.

I am facing overheating issues with my new OnePlus 8. I have not been using it very intensively so far...just 2-3 hours a day and already twice warning notification about overheating. Not able to start a new thread so adding in here. Anyone else facing similar issues? Any suggestions?

What is the ambiant temperature? I've read about a few in warmer regions that had temperature warnings when being out in the sun for some time.
At those overheating moments what was you doing? Gaming or simply just watching YouTube or something?

I feel like they should create a new post like they did on 8 Pro about unified battery and heat discussions. I guess it will be created sooner or later.

I am in Netherlands so the conditions aren't warm/hot (around 15-20°C).
And yes I was just browsing web and watching videos on youtube. Very stange behavior of a brand new and an expensive phone in such conditons. Thinking of returning it back

Could be some software using the CPU massively thus creating the heat. Check for issues in battery stats.
If it's not some software creating the heat you may have a faulty device.
Know a guy that got his 7 Pro replaced. It overheated constantly. The replacement did not.

Thanks for thr response. I faced the same issue again today. I was sitting in the sun (around 20° C) and surfed internet for around 25-30 mins today and then after nearly 30 mins, I again got the same warning. I think the device is faulty probably. I am raising request to return the device

I think the battery life is very bad, sub 2 hours screen on time with moderate usage and I have 50% left, this is so disappointing.
    120hz and FHD, dark theme
This is worse than my old 6T!

Positive feedback is so.... Positive and rare sometimes 😋
Still waiting on my phone... (Pro though). Bet my battery life will be great. Regardless of the many complaints every single update that ever existed [e]1f609[/e]
