    Hi everyone,

What is the best way to charge OP8T?

I have two charger, one is OnePlus X charger 5V 2A, and the other one is Warp Charger 65w.

I used to charge my phone at night, but I don't know what is safer between using the fast charger or the slow charger.

I saw few years ago that fast charging isn't good for the battery life, but today with new technologies etc. I have no really opinion.

The hardware is designed to cope with fast charging, so it should not be an issue.

However, for overnight charging the slow charger you have is perfectly fine and won't damage anything either.

As far as I know the 8T also has a charging optimization feature which prevents overnight charging and prolonged charging at 100%.

Basically it learns your charging habits and charges only to 80 percent of so and does the last 20 right before it expects you to remove it from the charger.

Since going to from release firmware battery drain when in deep sleep has gone from 1-2% per hour to 4-7% per hour...

I tried wiping the cache and a full reset to no avail...

Charging with either shouldn't pose problem. The 65W charging is great but I don't like using it when not in a hurry. I charge using my 3T's 20W Dash charger at times. It does take time to charge but the phone stays at room temperature.

One weird thing that I have noticed when using the 20W charger is, whenever plugged in, the phone takes time to register my touches. Once unplugged, everything is back to normal.

After the update battery seems to be better and gives me better SOT I get around 7-9 hrs with normal usage and 6-7 hrs (with 2 hrs gaming)
But the overnight drain of 5-7% is still there with no improvement

Sometimes overheating can be caused having other applications running on the background that is usually the typical cause, I would recommend that you close out the apps then perform a restart.give like 5 minutes Once you have your restart the phone should be good to use. I hope that will help. Worst case scenario contact OnePlus. Best wishes.

Well they DID. You have what's known as a "faulty handset" instead of whinging here get it sent back man!

You can charge it however you want - the phone will get hotter if you use a slower charger because all the heat is kept in the 65W charging brick. However charging it slower, because of the heat does not mean it will last longer. Personally as I have explained what it does and what State of Charge I would just use the OP brick.

Never charge your phone at night. When the phone gets to 100% it throttles back and keep the positive neutrons in a state of flux - this is very bad for the phone. The whole point of buying a OP phone has always been so you DON'T have to charge it overnight no?

Power is VxA=W so that's is a 10W charger at 5V 2A - The Warp charger is 6.5V 10A so 65W but again they don't charge all the way to 100% at full power,. The charging is throttled back by a (kind of in this case) Battery Management System and so using the warp charger is perfectly fine. You will find by 90% the phone and charging brick are both cool again

A good tip with the Oneplus range of phone is to get an app called Ampere, it will not only tell you the charging rates throughout but will also show you the temp and other stats - when a dual battery setup (phone or power pack or even car like a Tesla) it will always balance the cells. So you will often find that if you leave a OP phone until Ampere says "full" you will get extra juice from 100-99%

Bearing in mind I work in this very industry. Anyone is welcome to correct me, as I am always happy to be educated. However if you do please make sure you bring your Chemical Sciences & Electrochemistry PhD's with you as well.

You can always do that, or even switch on optimised charging feature if you feel like.
