    Fake 5G in OnePlus!

On 16th Dec 2020, Cabinet of India approves Auction of 5G spectrum in 700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2300 & 2500 MHz frequency bands only. 5G will be deployed in these bands in India.

    Detailed News Article : https://www.livemint.com/industry/t...um-auction-says-javadekar-11608112180204.html

OnePlus Nord (Indian Variant) only supports N78 Band, which is based on 3500 MHz. 5G in Nord will NOT work in India. Indian Defense, ISRO communications and Indian-NAVIC (GPS) rely on 3500 MHz. Govt. of India will never allow auction and deployment of 5G services in this band.

I'm surprised that even OnePlus 8T, 8 and 8 pro(the flagships of 2020) even only support ONE 5G band. (n78). OnePlus is playing a mass scam with us. All OnePlus 2020 phones are sold as 5G ready, but we'll never be able to enjoy 5G in them.

Don't do false publicity, marketing stunts and fool people into buying OnePlus 5G phones. When there is no support for all 5G bands, how can one say that the phone has 5G support. Atleast install antenna for 2,3 more bands to make it future proof. Take example from other brands, all of them are giving support for all sub 6Ghz bands 5G!

I'm surprised to see how a brand like OnePlus can play such cheap tricks with its loyal user base. Stop selling name sake, FAKE 5G!

edit (11/02/21) : DOT (dept. of Telecom) India confirmed auctions of only these bands- 1613047967052.jpg

See I still remember many of the 4G phone was not having 4G Volte support

If I am not wrong it's due to a band ( 850 ) which was previous used in CDMA later used in 4G

So what brand's did , they pushed update and enabled that 850 band to enable Volte

Same thing can be possible with nord

It's SUB 6GHZ means 1 antena for all sub 6 ghz bands
If it's milimeter wave then it need to be extra antena so that it can work with 6ghz + frq bandwith

    Another thing
    5G means it's SA ( standalone ) & NSA ( Non standalone )
In NSA mode 5G works with existing 4G network
Now it's upto the carrier which mode then are gonna opt for

    Things are much more complicated

So better wait for 5G rollout in india
Save your time & questions for that

This is quite new information, should oneplus have prepared all bands on the phone beforehand before knowing which bands will be adopted by which countries. 5G is a new tech and as with 4G in the beginning it certainly will have it's growing pains. I think no one realistically expected a first generation 5G phone to be fully compatible everywhere.

Also keep in mind you and many others bought a 5G phone before knowing if (or when) your network will support it. As long as the device has a 5G modem in it, they can market it as such.

Maybe that is to keep device price low in India... because the global Nord supports these bands

    EXACTLY!
You should have prepared nord and 8T to support all 5G bands.

There is no need to know which band will be supported in which country. Just install the damn antenna for all sub 6Ghz bands. It's the way other manufacturers are working (don't want to point names)... & OnePlus should also work the same way.

Tag line is "Never Settle". How did OnePlus get settled with only 1 band?

    Dear,
It isn't a solution. Not all the Nord/8T users know the bands, spectrum stuff.
Importing a phone from global market is difficult in India. Plus the price of global variant is much higher than the Indian variant. I can buy many other phones with better specs if I plan to extend my budget to import Nord.

I'm here just complaining about gimmick 5G that OnePlus is marketing.

    Yes!
It is the way. Take examples from other midrange 5G phones. Or if we talk about OnePlus 8T, take examples of other premium phones in the same price bracket. How they managed to give support for all bands? And why OnePlus can't give the same support? How it can do the cost cutting at such crucial thing?

Speak with your wallet next time, Buy one of the others because they support more bands. That's the only way companies learn.

That's what I'm saying.. the global version is more expensive for a reason... To add more bands cost more money(don't know why OnePlus decided to go with band 78 if it's military only) But 5G won't be a widely adopted in India for years to come, so I would not see this as a huge issue... Most Nord users won't even have the phone anymore when 5G networks are available for the masses.

Actually, no one (including OnePlus) knows before that our defense and navigation systems are based on these frequencies. Everyone came to know about this recently when government denied, stating this as a reason, after multiple auction requests of this band by Telecom companies. said:

Jio 5G (largest Telecom operator) will be launching in India in second half of 2021, as stated by Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Jio.

    So, 5G isn't that faaaaar!
My previous phone is a 4 years old Asus phone, still working fine. And I'd planned to use OnePlus Nord too for atleast 3.5-4 years. I think.....I now may need to upgrade it sooner within 2 years. It's also okay with me but what about 8T/8/8pro users?😂 I literally feel sad for them.😬 They have paid a premium fee only to use their phone for next 1 or 2 years...
    Thanks OnePlus!

Most likely oneplus will change the band in future phones... But guess those aleady sold and produced is stuck at band 78...
But I completely agree with you, I can't see why they decided to only put 1 5G band in the phone... At least two different or more as a minimum

Yeah, I hope they'll give more 5G bands in OnePlus 9 series.

    I just now checked....all 8 series phones, OnePlus 8, 8pro, 8T are doomed with only one band.😂🙏

Pretty sure you can use the phones with 4G as you're using now.
If you bought it solely for 5G... well who does that?
