Is it due to Media Storage?? Have you checked which app is causing the battery drain. If it is the Media Storage ensure there is nothing happening in background i.e. downloading, app running in background etc. This would drain the battery and heat up the device.
If this does not resolve the issue. I would suggest doing a hard reset. Ensure to backup your data. This would surely fix the issue. If not than only option is to submit a feedback via forum so that someone from OnePlus can help resolve the issue.

A new phone needs to rebuild cache for system and all apps. This is taking time and power.
A new battery will need 3-4 full charge/discharge circles to get its full capacity.

Do you have India or EU
That happened with me when I was using India software so I reflash my OnePlus 7 pro with the European software and that's fixed my problem with the heating it's heating now but not like with the Indian software it's a big difference so try to flash the European version off the software

Actually, it is. If you're playing on extreme graphics, it's gonna use the GPU more, resulting in more heat. Why not give it a try?

It might be capable but you're gonna have to deal with the consequences of it. Graphically-intensive games will cause the SoC to start heating up on all devices. It's why gaming-centric phones come with an external fan attachment.

Doubt that'd have much of a difference but worth a try, I suppose.
