Well for me the decision to „fix“ the IR camera also for OxygenOS is more or less a dealbreaker. As I am using an old iPhone 6s I was looking for a new top of the line device that does bring a snappy processor. Having an IR camera would have given the Oneplus Pro 8 the edge over the Samsung alternatives as it is a cool feature that allows to see in the dark using an IR light torch or to make some cool photos and videos.

No matter how Oneplus tries to fix the non-existing issues it is almost certain that the device will be made worse by crippling a camera what is not good at this price range. Buying the OnePlus Pro 8 would mean I need to invest time into installing custom ROMs and other shenanigans. I will now wait for the Samsung S20+ to come down with the price instead.

Hello David, USA users got an update deactivating the photochrome camera - do we have to expect this in europe too? If yes, i won t update my phone anymore, because i do not want my creativity get cut by some clickbaiter s dumb fake news hype.

Well... Only one filter. Not the whole lens. And temporary.

the camera is only used on that filter and cannot be used anywhere else. Disabling that filter is disabling the camera.

It's also a supportive sensor in other scenarios.

Please check the official description of the color filter camera on Oneplus website. And check what various reviewers have to say about what it does or doesn't do.

I don't think Otto2 claims is taken just out from the blue.

Also reviewers over exaggerated the "x-ray" effect and never really have any real examples of anything how terrible the camera was. If it was so terrible atleast someone could have proved that their nipples showed through a t-shirt. And guess what? I can't find anyone that does that. The best proof was a woman that showed a slight hint of an bra... And that never happens without that cam right? [e]1f609[/e]

They barely even touch the topic of that camera on homepage. Lack of info does not make the supportive cam features untrue. I hope to see more in detail info post about the camera to clear things up a bit. One single use of an extra lens does not really make sense. Too much extra costs for basically nothing.
I don't have my 8 Pro yet but I'll sure do some in depth testing on this topic when I do.

I meant the genuine reviews about the phone and the cameras, not the X-ray clickbait.
And yes, I agree with you, there is lack of information regarding this camera. OnePlus not being transparent or vocal about anything isn't helping either.

The only logical thing here would be that the lens if used for more things... Would be wasted money and time if not. For example Vibrant filter (to add more color info) to process the image (and more). Since Otto2 has the title "photography expert" I think his claims are more than just rumors and guesses

This is a complete shambles from Oneplus. I was about to buy the 8 Pro when they announced they'd be disabling the Color Filter Camera. I've been interested in IR photography for a while, just not quite enough to bother modifying an existing camera.

Now they announce that the Color Filter Camera is only to be disabled in China, yet people in the United States and elsewhere are reporting that this functionality is being disabled. I would probably have been in the market for the 8 Pro even without this camera but this debacle is putting me right off Oneplus.
