I have read it ... and can further state that my IN2020 8 Pro 12 + 256 Ultramarine lost the functionality even though I am in Canada and purchased the phone here.

It's done at camera level. All China devices is affected. Does not matter where you are or if using Oxygen

Device was purchased from a retail store in Toronto, Canada. I didn't buy it in China and brought it to Canada.

Even if you didn't import it someone did. IN2020 is China version. If the retailer wasn't clear about selling you an gray imported device it's the reseller that should fix it by replacing your phone with the proper one.

Some actual work related use of the color filter lens

A light flows trough a prisma with 4 exit points. The light shines through labels with gaps. The light differances of the label and the paper the label is then detected by 4 different receivers based on label width.

Be this as it may, I am not going to hunt down a person who sold be a good/legit product. It is running OxygenOS and deliveres every bit of awesomeness as I come to love about OnePlus devices.

My concern is the disabled hardware because someone saw it as a threat. By virtue of this example other hardware elements can be turned off just the same. While I recognize the necessity for making changes to hardware in pursuit of performance optimization or stability (or isolating a defect that hinders performance) - this isn't the case.

So I'd like to propose either an enrollment or provisioning location based allowance for the usage of this function - much like DJI drone program

That would be nicer. But I see the reason of why they did it. Too many get rid of Hydrogen. The removal would be pretty much ineffective. Anyway... it's temporary or atleast should be that according to what they said. I just hope you don't get any network issues and that you got a better price compared to the intended version. I would never buy an China version unless using it for sone very specific stuff like a secondary test phone for closed beta or Linage OS.

Indian version of OP8 pro already has disabled IR camera,
Latest update also has disabled it, even if in future they provide some option, even then IR camera will not have full functionality,
They are saying we are working on tweaks,
I will suggest don't buy it, wait for OP8 T, if you are OP fan.

How much are you using that filter? I'm much more interested in using it as an supportive sensor than just that single filter...

All I can see from that photo is that it looks dark. Without a decent amount of light even the slightest movement can give you a blurry image.
You may want to post a normal picture of the same thing as a reference.
