Update Oneplus 3 rooted

  1. fpiombo Cupcake Jul 6, 2018

    fpiombo, Jul 6, 2018 :
Hello, I've a Oneplus 3, I've never updated the OS cause I've rooted it after I bought it.

Now I would update my phone, anche when I go on Updates, he show me a message telling me that the software is rooted, and the root will be removed.

But what I would understand is: will this update my phone and only remove the root? Or it will crash?
And also, after I update to the latest version of Android, how can I root it again?

Could you suggest also some link with guide?
I attach a screenshot of the message.

    Thank you so much.

You're in the wrong forum then

    These two facts are unrelated.

Uh huh that's to be expected.

Flashing full ROM zip should work fine, although of course you'll lose root. If it fails simply download the full ROM zip manually and carry out an upgrade from internal storage.

Exactly the same way as you rooted originally.

Luke @ghostofcain said, you could just flash the full ROM. I'm gonna assume that, since your device is rooted, you already know how to backup and save any information you might lose.

First of all, thank you, I fixed my mistake, I've a Oneplus 3, not 6.

About the update and the root, I've made it more than one year ago, so if you have a link where to find all the necessary to do this with the latest version of Android, it will be appreciated.

To get the newest version, just download press ok on the software updates page. For root, just go to the right XDA thread.

To update you have to flash full Rom zip by doing this you will lose both root as well as custom Recovery

You will find tools to root and install custom Recovery in Xda

Or if you don't want to lose root and Recovery then you can flash modified version of Oxygen OS such as Freedom OS

    Check Xda for more information

Ok so could you explain (or have you link?) how to flash latest Android rom and not loose root and custom recovery? And also, in your way, will I loose all data?
    Thank you.

P.s. I would tell you that I've already twrp insralled.

    P.p.s. i've other 2 questions:

    1) Will i've some problem upgrading from Oxygen OS 4.5.1 to the latest 5.0.3?
    2) Do you think it is a stable verision? :D or do you suggest to not upgrade to the latest due to some famous bug?

    Thank you as always.

You won't lose data. Nothing wrong with 5.0.3

    Ok perfect. Thank you.
So I think the best way is:

    1) Reboot in recovery and flash the last TWRP zip
    2) Flash the last version of Oxygen OS zip
    3) Flash the compatible version of GApps
    4) Wipe all cache
    5) Reboot

    Right? :)
    Thank you as always.

No gapps. Oxygenos comes from oneplus so gapps are already in there.

Also TWRP is an IMG file. You need to flash it as a recovery image. If you don't already have it installed you'll have to do it via adb.

You don't need to wipe caches other. Just reboot into TWRP, flash OOS then any root/kernel you want then reboot. Simple as.

Ok, I already have TWRP installed.

So I think I can directly flash its update frome TWRP already installed, right?

    So to recap:

    1) Reboot in recovery (TWRP already installed) and flash the last version of TWRP zip
    2) Flash the last version of Oxygen OS zip
    3) Flash the Root zip
    4) Reboot

    Right? :)

TWRP is an IMG file, not a ZIP. Flash it as a recovery image. Apart from that, yes.

Mmm ok, so I thought the IMG file of TWRP could be flashed from the old version already installed of TWRP.. So how should I flash the latest version of TWRP?

    CrazyBenjy9, Jul 11, 2018 at 10:18 PM :
Just go into TWRP, go to install, then change from install zip to install IMG. It'll be an option on the screen. Go to where the latest TWRP IMG is and then press it. Choose to install it as a recovery IMG. Swipe to install, then reboot to recovery. Flash newest OOS and root, then reboot.
