Is it right that the 5T switches to the secondary lens in low light conditions?
If it's not utilizing both the lens and since both of the lenses have same focal length, is it possible to capture images from both lenses together at different exposures to improve the photo?

Yup, you are right, the 5T switches to the secondary lens in low lighting conditions.
As far as i know, it is not possible.

But even the Samsung note 8 can take 2 pictures simultaneously in one of its modes.
I see no reason why that can not be done on the 5T .

It is not a tough thing to do as far as I know, bt for now OnePlus doesn't provide that feature.
Also, it doesn't make sense on the 5T as the aperture is same for both lenses!

Samsung note 8 saves a picture without the effect and one with the effect but both from the same lens. dont be fooled by them.

Regardless of whether they do it using one lens or two, there is nothing stopping one plus from doing that in terms of spec. So why not have it

"One of the images will be a Live Focus image with the focus on the subject and a blurry background.

The other image will be a normal photo with both the subject and the background in focus."

Open camera > swipe up > click on Settings > Save normal photo.

This will do the same while using portrait mode.

For portrait mode you basically need 2 cameras ...
Doesn't matter if the second camera is telephoto or monochrome or a normal camera lens...

In case of LG its a little different as its a normal wide angle lens and the secondary is super wide angle

The original question was actually not about the portrait mode and bokeh. What I was actually asking is whether just like the HDR mode takes multiple shots and combines it, can we do the same on the 5T. Taking images from both lens and combine them. As far as I have read majority of the photos on the 5T only use the primary camera. The secondary lens is only used in case of extreme darkness. And the photos from that don't come out that well.
So why not give greater control over this. I am absolutely not an expert on this but I definitely think it can be improved.

I just told you how to do the same as what is told in the link that you provided, which tells how to take two photos at once.

what I meant was it is possible to combine data from two lense for better photo quality which huawei phones are doing with a 1 monochrome and one RGB lens. what u are saying is irrelevant. I am not talking about portrait mode.
