My parents are going on a trip to China, from what I can find, this phone supports the 3G band that China Unicom uses. However, it is locked in the stock rom. Is this correct? If so, what's the best way to bypass this? I don't want to flash to Color OS if I don't have to.

Thanks for the reply. I know the phones are unlocked in terms of carrier, however, from what I've read, people need to flash to a different modem driver in order to use China Unicom's 3G on their OnePlus One. Some people say you need to flash to ColorOS in order to get it to work. But I've found a post about a tool that'll just change the modem.

The question is, do I need it to use 3G in China?

No problem. I hope someone else would have used it in China and be able to tell me.

I can confirm that using the stock ColorOs Unicom3G is not working, I have to flash 2 xml files in order to get th 3G from ChinaUnicom to work. I will try to use the CM11 this afternoon and flash these files to see if they work with that ROM.

I am using international version (bougth in Hong Kong) in mainland China with a China Mobile SIM card and it works fine. If I have a chance I'll try with China Unicom as well. The phone OS is CM 11.0-XNPH44S.

I've recently used the OPO (on CM12 ROM which shouldn't be any different from CM11 in terms of carrier support) with China Unicom - not only did 3G & HSPA+ work, I got 50mbps down on LTE!

I did not flash any sort of chinese rom or modem

    TL;DR yes it works. :)
