Verizon: Google/OnePlus Messages: "Message expired or not available" After Update 10.3.0, 10.3.1

After 30 days with a new SIM card to resolve this issue the first time, it happened again! This is a basic, core capability that needs to be addressed/resolved or I might need to consider a different device that will be more reliable...

Affects Google Messages, OnePlus Messages, Verizon+ messages - unable to receive messages and group messages (SMS/MMS). Message says "Message expired or not available" or "Downloading failed, message expired or not available"

    6T global, stock on Verizon.

Usually fails: MMS from group iPhone threads.
Sometimes fails: Any message from other carriers.
[EDIT:Sometimes fails: Intra- and cross-platform messages (Android and iOS)]

    Reboot did not fix.
Remove and reset existing SIM card did not fix.
Reset SIM network did not fix.
    Clear cache did not fix.
    Factory reset did not fix.

Temporary Fix: SIM card replacement - had to do this twice in 30 days... :(
At least Verizon corp store does not charge for SIM card replacements...

    Broken in 10.3.0
    Broken in 10.3.1

Does Verizon finally have GSM functionality?

Not sure. Regardless, that doesn't explain why this happened twice, with the second time upon no changes other than SIM card change.

Nothing changed in the service black-end either as was verified by Verizon technicians.

I'd ask them if they support GSM.

Even if they did, that would require a re-certification of devices, which wouldn't help existing devices.

Again - that doesn't explain the fluctuations in service. It worked fine for almost a year before this issue started.

Same app, same service: my OnePlus and wife's Pixel get different results. Her phone works, mine stopped and/or was intermittent until SIM swap.

You do know what GSM is, right?

I'm just asking if Verizon works on GSM phones or if they're stuck on CDMA which is slowly dying.

No bearing on the ability to send and receive messages either way. Unless certain Band support that OnePlus doesn't have is part of the issue, but that wouldn't explain the behavior over the last year to/from same recipients on same phones on same network.

Did your wife buy her Pixel (or is it iPhone?) from Verizon?

I have experienced the same exact thing. Running 10.3.1 on Oneplus 6T, Google Messages app with Verizon as my carrier. Replaced my SIM and everything started working again. Last night, group text and MMS messages stopped working. I was able to switch to the Verizon Messages app and everything is working again. However, I really dislike the look/feel of the app. You are not alone Matt.

I'm sorry Kytharsis, but your assistance throughout this post is really not helpful. This is a known issue and a bug opened on it already:

    https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...mms-messages-after-android-10-update.1134562/
    &
    https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...or-not-available-after-update-10-3-0.1159384/

The issue has been experienced by many users with our specific configuration. An acknowledged fix, replacing the SIM, is now starting to fail after working for a short time. Asking if we understand what GSM is or checking the downdetector is very condescending and maybe you should just not reply to our posts.

Note: this is happening on VERIZON only. Phone is GSM, Verizon is one of only two CDMA carriers (till the T-Mo/Sprint merger then it'll be the only one) in the US. Hence why I asked.
