    Hi,
You guys read it right, Google Duo is now officially available on the Android TV play store. Though it’s not in its perfect form and we may expect some improvements in the future, even with the present state it’s a great tool to do video calls from the TV directly and make use of the giant screen. I have been using it and quite happy with the call quality both in terms of Audio and Video.

A UVC (USB Video Class) Webcam would be required for the video capturing and the remote’s in-built mic captures the audio during the call.

Here’s how to set it up
    1. Go to Play Store and search for “Google Duo” and Install the App.
Right now as Duo is in beta phase, there is no option to open directly from the App drawer.
      Screenshot_1.jpg

    2. Install any 3rd Party App Launcher like “ATV Launcher” or “Side Load Launcher” and access the Duo App.
      Screenshot_2.jpg

    3. Once you open the APP, it will ask for permission to access Contacts, Microphone and Camera. Allow all of them.

    4. Left side of the app has contacts, call history and search, where as the right side will be the video captured from the webcam.
      Screenshot_3.jpg

    5. Click on the contact and select Video Call to proceed with the call.
You can check my video to know the Audio and Video quality from my setup

Here are a few things to know
    1. As the voice is captured by the remote’s mic, it’s not so loud and it doesn’t even cancel the noise around. So better to keep it as close as possible with no noise in the surroundings (I even have to keep fan turned OFF sometimes).
    2. For receiving the calls directly from the TV, the Duo app has to be opened or running in the background.
    3. The Duo will sign-in by default using the Google Account linked with the TV. If you want to use a different account, sign-out from Duo, add the google account into the TV settings via Settings<Accounts<Google and then login back to Duo.
    4. If you sign out and try to sign in with only phone number, it automatically links the phone number with the Google Account linked in TV and shows contacts from the same. This might mess it up a bit, so make sure to avoid it.
    5. The speaker volume needs to be considerably high to be able to hear the voice from the other side. If the person from other side use a headset, the voice could be better.
    6. If you are using external speaker with HDMI ARC, Passthrough mode would not give audio output.
Hope this helps and I am sure this opens a different perspective of the TV usage. Do let me know if you have any queries related to this, would be happy to help out.

A small update guys, with the latest app version of Google Duo, you won't need a 3rd party launcher as the app is visible in App Drawer now. So make sure to update the Duo App.

    Hey... My pleasure...
I don't think OnePlus has any plans for Webcam accessory anytime soon. It wasn't dedicated for webcam but was mean to be for far-field which they left later.
The one I have is from Zebronics...Logitech Ones would work too.

Right now it's like any other USB port but during launch it was envisaged to be used for connecting port for Far Field accessory. So basically you can activate Google Assitant without even have to reaching out for remote.

Could share a screenshot and did you try checking after a restart. As per the error message, one of the app you installed is accessing the mic in the background.

As duo is still in beta stage, it might be having trouble. Wait for couple of updates.

@Venky61, I tried to connect hard disk by using the top usb port. Unfortunately my Tv is not recognising the harddisk. But that is working with remaining 2 USB ports.
    Are you facing same issue?

Nope... I am able to connect the harddsik. The Type C to USB A connector you are using might be the culprit.
