actually, the volume buttons change both media and ringer volume according to context on the screen. If it's idle, it will change the ringer volume by default. If it's playing something, it will change media volume.
    Hope this help.

yeah I have the same "problem".
I'm in silence mode everytime and when I want to control volume is only for media volume. (and change ringtone volume do nothing in silence mode because it's locked...)
Apple phone have a parameter to lock used of volume button for media maybe is it possible to have something similar on Oxygen ?

Anyone found a fix for this? I've been having the same problem lately. My Oneplus 3t is always on silent mode, and before, I could change the volume when media played by just pressing my volume buttons. Now though, it changes my ringing volume.
Whenever I reboot my phone, it fixes itself for a while, but then it changes back.

it's because Facebook msgr or viber is taking control of the phone as if a call still ongoing. immediate solution is either to clear all apps from recent or manually close voip apps like fb msngr viber etc. used to happen on nexus with me as well so it's not a bug from op.

on the other hand, ppl saying it's a bug the volume button, no it's not a bug. just use the drop menu when the ringer appear

I use Rocker Locker, free on the Play Store, to do this. It force the volume buttons action always to media volume control instead to ringer volume.

Oxygen OS should feature the volume rocker customization. Really annoying having to click that drop down arrow every time before I start the video to adjust the listening experience.
