Volume buttons only control media

Noticed today that when you press the volume buttons it will only control media volume, even when no media is playing. OnePlus customer support said that it was a software decision. Am I the only one who thinks the Volume buttons should be able to adjust the Ring volume if no media is being played? I know I could do that on my 3T.

I agree. If no media playback is present, it doesn't make much sense for media volume to be the primary volume button control.

Yes, there must be a workaround, regular Android pie allows you to select ringer once you've started pressing up or down.
I don't understand why oneplus would have changed this.

I'm glad they have it this way at OnePlus. I always changed the volume accidentally and I wouldn't change it often. I'm fine with entering the settings for this.

I agree! The volume buttons/selection is terrible compared to my 3t! I can't stand how the slider works now! It's so frustrating!

So... you're fine with having your ringer ring every time you change ringer volume? This feature is annoying and oneplus should have docked the ringer volume slider to the audio volume slider.

Is there a way to change the volune control button to actually control phone volume rather than media volume?

I am also trying to find a way. How can they give such a crap feature which completely wastes the use of volume button. Noone plays media 24/7

How do you change the buttons to map ring volume and not media?

There is a toggle in the app. It says 'Default to ring volume'.

Removing it completely might be a rooted thing. I didn't root my device. It's smart enough, for me, to know which of the two volumes I want adjusted depending on the screen I'm on except on Google Duo. I need to turn it off at that point.
