    Hi everyone,

I hope you had an amazing time with the latest challenge. We haven’t chosen the 10 best photos just yet, but we’ve seen some amazing photos in the first challenge’s thread. We hope to share the winning in the upcoming days, as soon as all the moderation meet-up craziness calms down.

For this week, we’ve invited @maarten_lisboa, who was responsible for the photo we highlighted in last week’s Weekly Update. He’ll tell you in his own words why he picked this topic, but I look forward to seeing your pictures. A sunset picture is a great excuse the enjoy the evening while getting some great shots, so don’t miss the chance to go outside your phone and capture those last rays of sunshine!

    Have fun!

When @dsmonteiro asked me to come up with a theme for the weekly challenge sunsets was the first thing that came up to me.

It maybe sounds like a easy theme but the reason i choose this one is because you have many ways of capturing a sunset. You can just focus on the setting sun, look for some nice shadows, maybe get a nice silhouette against the light or just capture the golden hour in nature.

    Some tips and tricks :

    - make sure your lens is clean before you start, a dirty lens can make the whole picture look really weird. All thought sometimes it gave me an amazing extra flare effect.. But let's say in most cases it won't help you to get the best result.

    - play around with the settings like hdr or no hdr. It can make a huge difference. I prefer to shoot in auto hdr most of the time, the software is there to make it possible to get a nice quick capture. Shoot more then one , play around with the focus point and have a look later after the sunset what shots are there to keep.

    - shoot in raw when you really want to get all the details. Afterwards you can get the best results when you edit the raw file in Snapseed or Lightroom.

    - play around with the sunlight. Lower the phone, change the angles, even use an object or person to hide the light to get a nice silhouette.

    Pictures by @Discostu and @ankitgondalia

    - every sunset is different. My favorites are those with just the perfect amount of clouds. Clouds will give you those extra colors but in the end nature decides what it will be.

So surprise us with some nice captures. Golden hour light on nature or a city, some nice long shadows or that perfect play of clouds in the sky during a sunset.
And most importantly : have fun !

Oh my, you've managed to hit the nail on the head with this one. Even though I've been a slowpoke last week and never posted any of the B&W shots, let me at least share one of my all-time faves (shot on Nexus 5) - I've had it as my background for quite a while:
It could probably do with a bit of a crop, but I managed to accidentally save an overzealous crop, so this'll have to do for now.
I know it doesn't follow the rule of thirds, or anything, but I liked the symmetry.
It's the river Rhine, taken after a day out walking with my friends.

I could bore you with about 100 more, but I'll spare you I guess, since a significant proportion of my library consists of sunset shots.
