    I use 8sms, its basically stock messaging but for whatever reason CM always seems to have a lot of trouble with sending MMS messages. 8sms has its own setting that override the APN settings that are stored in your phone and it seems to work pretty much all the time now. Plus it has a built in dark theme which is really nice

    Winner! Wish it had an option to back up my SMS conversations as well. I change ROMs a lot and I'm to lazy to is titanium backup or alternatives.

    I used to use iMessage with iOS, but since I was moving Android I needed something cross platform. I found WhatsApp and it fills the need I had for an easy to use messaging app.

    I have an app on BlackBerry that will back it up to a file, or export to an excel spreadsheet. Or I backup the settings database in BlackBerry Link.

    good if you dont mind your messages in google servers. I dont understand why ppl don't see the security implication. is convenience a better trade off for security and confidentiality ?

    HandcentSMS for text messages (I like the popup functionality; Hangouts doesn't have this yet as far as I know). Hangouts or FB for IM.

    Just going to throw this out there. Google Hangouts is the absolute best I've ever used. Wouldnt switch to anything else for any reason.

    WhatsApp. Because everybody else here uses it too. What use is a Messaging App if you're the only one of your friends using it?
