WhatsApp have acknowledged this as a problem.
The problem seems to have been fixed in the latest version of WhatsApp (v.2.19.325), which hasn't yet hit the Google Play Store, but you can download it direct from WhatsApp if you're one of those affected

Check the App Info to see if your version is older than v 2.19.325

If the version is older, then check for an update in the Play Store
If there's no update in the Play Store, head to the link in my last comment on your phone and click the "DOWNLOAD NOW" button.
Then install the file that gets downloaded - NOTE: you may have to give chrome (or whatever browser you use) permissions to install applications

OnePlus should seek into this issue seriously coz every second phone user have whatsapp and after their recent data breach, I kinda feel uncomfortable about my phone's security.
