Hi, I just noticed that this problem occurs when the video enhancer is switched on inside the display settings... When it is off I have no saturation problem during video recompression.
Can someone please try and confirm this?

I just noticed that editing and saving a video in the gallery converts it into the correct rec 709 format for exporting to WhatsApp or YouTube. So for better results, a good work around (until OP fix it) would be first edit and save your video in the gallery BEFORE exporting to WhatsApp! And also switch off the video enhancer before saving, otherwise the video will be saved with the effects from the enhancer.

    Very complicated pipeline indeed...

no it's not what's app fault because it's not like that on other devices I have and I tested it on 4 phones from different brands. it's one plus's fault unfortunately and I hope this will be fixed.

I tried using the app Open Camera from Mark Harman and it solves the problem.

Everyone is saying it isn't a WhatsApp problem but given just how much it compresses a video it has to have some impact on the end result. I have just sent a 241MB video and WhatsApp compressed it to just 56MB, that is a 76% reduction in the file size and therefore the data contained in it, it has to have some impact regardless of what the 7t is playing at.

This is definitely an issue with OP 7t and the video is horrible and choppy on different apps, not just WhatsApp. No issue when I share videos with my OP 5. People should refrain from purchasing OnePlus 7t until this issue is resolved from OnePlus' end. Really disappointing that people who own OP 7 also faced the same issue and yet it wasn't resolved in OP 7t.

Same Problem on a brand new OnePlus 8 Pro. Changed from a old Huawei Mate 20, there was e better quality if you send videos ove whatsapp. i tried OP8Pro also with and without HDR video settings, but no difference. The ColorSpace re or bt 2020 is normaly used only if you record HDR videos, but doesnt matter whiche one u used, the whatsapp video quality is very poor.
If you now you would send a video, do the video in the app, e.g in whatsapp recorded videos also very good after sending. But if you record with normal OP camera app you have this problem.
also the workaround over resaving in gallery is not the smae good quality as native recording in the whatsapp.

hoppefully there is a fix in near feature for the native camera app, to choose the diffrent color option.

Ok so I've also got this problem on my OnePlus 8 Pro.
It's something to do with how OnePlus compresses the videos when sending over WhatsApp. To test this I've created and sent a 166mb video using my old Hauwai P20 Pro to an iPhone via WhatsApp and it works fine. If I transfer that same video file via USB cable to my oneplus8pro and then send it via WhatsApp to the iPhone I get these issues. Not only does it seem to take much longer then usual to send but when it does eventually send, I get mismatch of sound to image with it speeding up images and then it just freezes.

I have the same problem and I believe is problem of both sides Whatsapp and Oneplus. In one side is Oneplus by encoding the video in a format that Whatsapp cannot handle it well and other hand Whatsapp by not supporting it. Don't know who is to blame but is freaking annoying and seems like we have a Nokia phone from 10 years ago rather than a flagship wanna be.

I hope they fix this soon.

It may be the problem of your default browser. You can change the default browser using content://com.android.browser.home/ syntax.

One of the main reasons I bought the phone was that I heard OnePlus cares/listens to its users/customers. So I had high expectations that if we find an issue like this it would get fixed (eventually); but after some dismissive responses, I just gave up (but did complain about it on the forums - maybe someone finds a workaround for it).
