tried to reply to this earlier but it seems this built in community app is wobbly.....

anyway, has anyone or can someone install a terminal emulator and run:

    df -h

it's the usage on /data that we are interested in.... does it agree with the storage app or not? if not storage app is buggy (who cares) if it does then yeah something is munching disk.

Try search a folder called "oem_log", I have the same issue, from time to time I had to delete the whole content of this folder. it seems that it's like a log fille automatically created by system about battery usage. I remember I had it enabled a while ago, but really don't know how to disable that.

If you're talking to me get off my D**k. Ain't nobody talking to you anyways. If you aren't interested in a thread then scroll on by. Don't stop by just to leave a smart remark. If you're not talking to me then whatever. Same rules still apply. ;)

I've deleted the oem log file several times but it always comes back within a day or two, usually when I use BT. That's why I thought maybe it had something to do with Bluetooth. That and the bt snoop file that's in the folder.

I have that folder and file, not sure might be related to Bluetooth. It's only about 50mb so that cant be eating the data

No I knew it wasn't taking up much space. I just wondered what it was and why it kept coming back. I deleted it last night but after using my bt today, it was back.

Just ran that in a terminal emulator and it agrees with the storage app, there is something eating the data and I don't know what as I installed all the same apps on Marshmallow and the device has more available storage than it does on 4.1.0

I imagine you're probably right about it being a bt log

I already have Bluetooth hci Snoop log turned off and buffer size is on 256k. Does it hurt to turn off logger buffer sizes?

Just checked and it fits. About 4GB in others, nowhere to be found. Only thing considered other by file explorer was spotifie's cache folder and when I deleted all app data, other rose to 8GB :D

Thanks for testing the df thing. Think I'll leave the update as i don't like the idea of storage being eaten like that. Especially without root cannot investigate further

I think it just clumps stuff together.
EG. videos says 2.59 mb when I have over 4 gb of videos in my whatsapp folder on my phone

its a good reminder to clear out all the junk forwards from my phone
