Why no quick charge in OnePlus 2? :(

How important is QuickCharge for you?

  1. Very important. I won't be getting the OP2

  2. Somewhat important. I'll be considering alternatives.

  3. I don't care. #NeverSettle forever. Oh wait, that doesn't make sense here...

I have a Nexus 6 and it includes Quick Charge 2.0; its a great feature. Hell, it also includes Wireless Qi charging and NFC, all of which I'd like to see in the OP2.

If they have to disable Quick Charge 2.0 to avoid overheating, something is wrong. Even many "version 1" 810 chipset phones that get really hot still support quick charge 2.0. If the OP2 is built on the later variant of Snapdragon 810, then it should only be better, one would think. If not, it either means that Qualcomm's chipset is bad (which would mean that every other device with an 810 shouldn't be able to quick charge without overheating) or the OP2's engineering is lacking. Either way, it would be an unfortunate circumstance.

Another way this could be handled is by OnePlus making good on their "Never Settle" motto and having that USB TypeC connector for more than just show: make the connection USB3.1 compatible. USB3.1 over a TypeC connector can handle not only much faster data transmission, but also faster charging with voltage/amperage regulation, allowing quick charging while possibly helping to mitigate heat issues. This would be truly "future proofing" the wired connectivity, rather than just a nicer connector with the same old USB 2.0 capabilities.

Lack of quick charge 2.0 in a device using the highest-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is frustrating; it seems like such a thing shouldn't happen without someone fouling up and then attempting to band-aid the issue and hoping nobody looks deeper.

Not according to MKBHD. Similar charge rate at the OPO.

It doesn't matter, just buy a 2.1 charger with a good quality cable and it'll still charge quickly. I think it's 28/23 awg or something the type of cable

There are no V1 810 chipset devices. (This was an engineering sample)
They are all V2.1 like the OnePlus, even If they shipped with V2, as it was simply a software update.

I was speaking of the difference between 2.0 (the first version to ship) and 2.1, firmware/software update or otherwise. I should have improved my word choice though, for clarity.

People have discussed the difference between the first 810s to launch and their heat issues and those that might be mitigated by the later version. If I recall, OnePlus themselves noted that by using the latest edition (with or without possible tweaks. I am unsure of any changes they've made beyond Qualcomm's updates) the concerns over using the 810 were addressed.

In the launch OP didn't mentioned anything about it so bad sign. SD 810 allows quick charge, so maybe like with LG G4, you have to put the money for a fast charguer. Very disappointed
