Why not 32gb for base model?

When will 16gb just go away as base spec, and 32gb become the norm? I think the $50 price difference is a no brainer for 64gb, but think that 32gb should have been the base option. Just a small gripe - would buy a 16gb if I had an invite right now (mainly stream anyways). Just a thought though.

I kind of wonder if that was the breaking point for price. It's possible that with 32 GB, the "low storage" version would have gone over $299, and I can see why you would want to keep a model at that price point.

It's been noted that the difference in cost to OnePlus between 32 GB and 64 GB wasn't that much, so I presume that there was a decent jump from 16 GB to 32 GB. Besides, if you're following the Google mentality and just storing everything in the cloud, how much local storage do you really need? ;)

Yeah, I am speaking for myself with the cloud thing. I have an unlimited data plan. Something that a lot of people don't have. I think 16gb with no expandable storage - without an unlimited plan - may be hard to deal with.

Good point on the price point. It's possible 32gb could have bumped it over the $299 sweet spot. All in all, a balancing act of price vs. specs.

I think 32gb should be the base spec by now. Companies are milking 16gb as long as they can as the base.

Agreed. The base model is gonna be where they do the numbers dance and get the price as low as possible for marketing, publicity, word of mouth. Then they just work up from there for the upgraded models.

I think that's a great question, since 16GB can easily be used up in a day of using the phone.

Ah, yes... if only we could go back to the good old days where everyone had unlimited data.... Let's keep LTE around when we travel back in time, though :)

I think all phones should be 32gb for the base model, there would be a lot more interest. With that bit more space people can add a music library and a few videos without taking away the capacity for the apps.

Big jump in price between 16gb and 32gb, but I guess they said there wasn't much between 32gb and 64.

32gb was skipped over on the 1+ as the base option partly as the storage was the same price as the 64gb. odd but true.

    Another 32gb thread.
Why would you want a 32gb when you can get the 64gb for half of what others are selling for the 32 upgrade for. Most charge you an extra 100 to go from 16 to 32.
    So may wasted threads

However 16gb seems to be standard across the industry, so it's silly for Oneplus to go against this because it means they can offer the phone at under $300.

16gb to 64gb for $50 more. Apple 16gb to 64gb - $200 more. Gouging the sheep for years.
