One reason is the ISO value. The OnePlus App usually uses a higher ISO value.

If you use the manual (pro) mode with the stock app, you have the chance to lower the ISO value, and should get better details on your pictures.

Plus, the Google cam algorithms are indeed very good.

In the photo section you can find many very good pics that were taken with the OnePlus camera app,and that are really good. Have a look:)

Google camera app also allows turning denoise off, which gives you more detail at the expense of more noise. Stock camera app has no "denoise off" option.

The Google app is using some libraries Oneplus is not allowed to use. The app ports are not official, most probably any commercial use of this software is not allowed. Oneplus has to write it's own libraries and to code own algorhytms.

At Hamburg camera event we asked for such a switch or, better, a slider for denoising. Unfortunately Oneplus did not implement this until latest beta.

sadly for oneplus xiaomi now offers better photo quality because of software.

oneplus is pushing 5g and forgot about good camera. dont think that this will bring them more clients.

the worst in oneplus photos is that oil painting thing when we zoom in.

gcam even that it does 12mpix pictures produce more detailed photos than 16mpix oneplus software

Google has something that nobody will have, access to billions of images and videos thanks to Google Photos, they use fragments of the images/videos to analyze them and improve their algorithms of computational photography.

Because Google spend far more because they can and employ far far more people, guess why? Maybe because Google is one of the biggest companies in the world, OnePlus isn't...

And that is why the amount of Megapixels in a camera doesn't matter if you don't have the software behind it

oil painting syndrome do not appear in pro mode. oneplus should just turn off their bad algorithm in auto mode and it will be better for pictures

Hey Otto, how have you been? You've seen a denoise slider in the beta for 6T back in March? Can't seem to remember it. I've noticed one thing though, on Stock OP, on Auto I capture better pictures at night than in Gcam, and 10 times better than the NightScape mode for the past couple of months.

Hey, nice to see you here. They re still working hard at the camera, i m using the 7 Pro now and sold my good Öl OP6, so i m not able to remind this slider. Amsterdam was great and interesting. There s still a lot of work necessary regarding the camera, but looking at the DP4 we can await very interesting new features. Hope fully they can improve them a bit more, so we will get the full advantage of the sensor.
