The seagull didn't know it, but when the photo was shot, its life was already sentenced. Lady P. was only missing one specimen. And there it was, right under her nose, plain and simple. The easiest one of them all. Although taking the photo was not hard, capturing it without damaging the plumage presented many troubles and she needed almost an hour. After that, the rest was as easy as falling off a log. At her next weekly special dinner, the seagull was already filling its spot on the wall, finishing once and for all her precious work. While eating that celebrating special lunch she thought that maybe it was time to start another bigger collection. And then, her servant entered the living room for the last time.

P.S. 1: This story is dedicated to @Cheetosdust. The seagull model could easily be his neighbor.
P.S. 2: No animal was harmed during the process.

    Hah, many thanks, Bolita!

And, me being me, I've read that as "Cheetosdust, the seagull model". Perfect! :tearsofjoy:

I've read and loved every single story you shared here - hear me out, not trying to be cheesy this morning. ;)

The combination of the photos with the carefully crafted words truly are a joy to read. They also show how a story does not need a happy ending to be memorable. Your twists and turns are always enticing and I honestly hope you continue to write, to shoot, and to share them all, even when this thread is over.

The biggest irony of this particular one is that you mentioned how the seagull could be my neighbor and without knowing, that background does look like one of the biggest avenues here in Porto.

Thank you for the tag, thank you for the continuous sharing, and a special thanks to your talent. Hello, Bolita's talent, so nice to meet you. You're awesome, Mrs. Talent.

Thank you for your cheesy "not pretending to be cheesy" words ლ(ꈍωꈍლ)

It is actually Porto, that's why it could be your neighbor :D Nice analytic eye you have!

Do not worry, I have a long list of short stories and since we don't know (yet) when this will end I might have enough to keep posting until next year, adding new ones that will be created in the future.

    Muito obrigada cheesy dusty dust!

Abandoned shadows at corners with curly hair. Why does your sadness look so familiar? Why is your waiting taking so long? Are you actually waiting for someone? I wasn't even able to keep you for myself as I would have wanted to, but I got your essence. What about a hello, a quick chat with a stranger you won't see again. Since the first time it happened I've believed that the best talks are near trains. Those who leave, those who stay. The realities that will not ever happen, the sweet feelings of the unknown, the common sense of need. Are you still at your corner? Will you still be there tomorrow? Saying hellos and goodbyes to strangers unaware of your presence. I did notice you, mysterious shadow. I'm just not sure if you were there for me, if you were only in my mind, if you aren't past but future.

    My Never Settle story
    Back Story :
Back in 2015, I was a student and having strict parents, I was not allowed to have any social media accounts. Being a topper everyone had really high expectations from me.
Life was going smoothly and I was studying hard for my 12th exams.
Finally it was the day of my exams. First day was English exam. Returning home, my mom noticed my neck was weirdly swollen. I ignored her and focused on my next exams.
Next paper was mathematics. To my worst possible luck, my health degraded and I was bleeding from my nose. I couldn't even study the night before exam. I went to the exam hall with all possible medicines in case of emergency.
As soon as I left the exam hall, parents rushed me to local ENT specialist. Medication started and my health started to improve but neck was still swollen.
I wasn't even able to move my neck. However, I decided to give my remaining exams with positivity that "ALL IS WELL"
After my exams, I underwent a series of health checkup which never indicated any problems.
Neck swelling was the only concern of every doctors.
We opted of homeopathy and neck swelling was improving. We all were happy that finally some sort of improvements.
Results were declared and I got 85% in 12th boards.
I was kinda disappointed because it was a drop from 93% in my 10th.

Still I managed to get admission in reputed engineering college.

    Main story :
It was 1st September, 2016 when I started getting fever. Paracetamol helped me reduce the fever but none of the antibiotics could stop the saga of fever!
We ran from hospital to hospital, did every possible test and nothing was found. Fever wouldn't stop reappearing.
Finally we got contact of a world famous doctor, however his appointment was available after 4 months. My dad used to reach hospital at 2:30am in the morning and join the queue of special 5 first come first serve patients. He then called my mom and mom took me to hospital.
After hearing my symptoms, he gave me a very high dose anti biotics which put me in dilemma, whether to take or not. Most concerning part was the real cause was not yet diagnosed 😔.
After taking second opinion, my family decided to follow his advice.
On November 28, 2016 first medicine went in my body. Before that day, I only had issues with stomach ache and fever. After around 2 days I kept on puking whatever I was trying to eat. Slowly I wasn't able to hear loudly, see clearly. I remember because I had just brought oneplus 3 and I thought what is wrong with my speakers? . Things started to go hay wire.

The antibiotics had reacted to my body!

I was not able to sleep. Continuous hiccups. My parents felt helpless. We contacted that doctor again who asked us to take saline and meet him.
On 3rd December, 2016 at 3am in morning parents took me to nearby hospital and got me admitted. I was admitted only to get some saline and we all were of opinion that because of continuous vomiting, I had such problems but little did we know that it was the biggest shock of ours lives.

A local doctor visited me next day and said what were we doing? Apparently my stomach had swollen and we didn't notice. I went for a CT scan who's results were shocking. 🤯

It was found that my small intestine had blasted. Its cause is still unknown.

Immediately docs told me to undergo a surgery. We didn't even have the time to change hospital. It was do or die situation.
They did surgery on the same day.
However after surgery they said, my intestine is stuck and has become a football. So they couldn't do anything 😕. My vitals have fallen and asked my parents to count every hour.
Magically, I got all my senses within few days. I don't remember much, all I know once I opened my eyes, I saw my ex, my mom crying and thousands of pipes in my entire body.
I couldn't speak because of ventilation, I used pen and paper to talk. After seeing my quick recovery, doctors were amazed and removed ventilation and shifted me to normal ward.
I thought everything was going fine until 15th December, 2016. 😣
At around 2 am in the night, I felt some liquid among my stomach. At morning doctors found out that my stitch was opened.
That liquid was the acid made by body to digest food. Since it was acidic in nature, my entire skin was burnt. Immediately doctors tried to stitch the wound again.
This was one of the worst day of my life. They gave me 6 anesthesia injection but none worked on the burnt skin.
The doctor took the needle and just touched my skin. Assuming anesthesia will work they proceeded towards stitching BUT anesthesia didn't work probably because of burnt skin. I screamed so loudly entire hospital came towards my room. I felt everything. How the needle pierced through my body and every other pain. This continued for 6 rounds. On 6th round, doctor inserted the needle inside my wound and needle broke in two pieces. One part was inside the body 😭. I can't even imagine what I was going through. Doctors used a tweezer to remove it.
    That was just the beginning.

The new stitch didn't stay in place either. It met the same fate. However my main doctor had left for some meeting for 2 days. I was in pain. Burning pain. None of painkillers were working. Parents didn't know what to do.
Doctor suggested another surgery whose success rate was very low.
My mom decided to take DAMA (discharge against medical advice) and shifted to a hospital 40kms away. I was shifted along with 4 pipes attached to my body.
I can't describe what I was going through.
The day I reached, I guess around 5 doctors attended me. None could find the cause of my issue.
However one doctor decided to take advantage of my youth and removed all the pipes as well as the stitches. A specially sealed adhesive was applied near my 10 inch wound and he asked me to eat whatever I like. Be it Ice cream, cake, pasta anything, to gain some weight. He was of the opinion that he will wait for 4 months so that my body will heal my intestine and loosen it, so that he can then perform surgery on it.
On January 10, 2017 it was my 19th birthday. I was in Hospital bed and it was the worst birthday 😭.

The worst part was removing the adhesive and reapplying it on the wound. The entire cut was washed, and slowly the adhesive was peeled. I used to cry every time. This happened twice every week for 4 months.

None of the medicines were working on the contrary my lungs started to give up. They started IV. Everyday 5 injections. There came a time, my body was not letting any IV fluid to flow through my veins. My weight started to fall. It fell to 29kg from 60kg. Nothing in my favor doctor decided to perform a series of unconventional test in the month of April. I can't even describe my fear on hearing the test. They inserted barium liquid from my open wound and put me in X-ray machine, to check whether my intestine can be operated or not.
Luckily this was not painful. Perhaps I was used to pain by now. 😢
Doctor performed a 5 hour long surgery on me last week of April and luckily this was successful. First ray of hope entered in our lives.
But after surgery, again medicines started to react to my body. No one was able to find the cause. The doctors were afraid, without proper medication, this operation would again become a failure.
At this moment a new doctor took a different approach. He gave me the least dose of medicine along with other anti biotics. He had his vision clear, one medicine was to protect myself another was to improve my immunity and let my body fight with the bacteria. This magically worked.
My case was nothing but a miracle in history of that hospital.
Finally I got my discharge on May, 2016 last week.
I was taught everything from basics like walking, sitting because all these days I was bed ridden.
The medicines continued for 1 year and finally I am back to normal.

From counting every hour of my life to coming back to normal life, this is my never settle story.
After all these turbulence, I rejoined engineering college and even I managed to get 9.5+ CGPA making me among the toppers yet again.
Nothing is impossible. Everything in life follows a cycle, if you are going through the worst phase of your life, hold tight because the best is yet to come!

Thank you if you read my entire story.

    Hey Guys,
We appreciate everyone sharing your stories. It's been a good week reading your posts.

Here is something that might increase chances of your excellent literary piece being read, completely.
We do have a TL;DR club around here, who don't quite read huge stories. :p

What I would suggest is use different text formatting and colors to highlight the most important part/ turning points of your story. It makes it visually appealing and encourages users to read.

Also, if you can add related image/s with your story that will further enhance your post.
Of course, these are just tips and not necessarily a requirement.

    As for the prizes,
The contest will run indefinitely, until we have 5 winners. So keep sharing your stories.
The thread will be updated as and when the winners are picked.

    Regards!

    Your story just proved that.

I'm sorry, about the pain you had to go through but on the brightest side you are now fine and that's just amazing! Thanks for sharing.
