Well then let's hope you've been cleaning it just before a real zombie apocalypse then!

Did I? The way I see it, I'm just observing; I'm not partaking in the activities on this thread. Ergo, I'm not participating.

Lol. I hear you. However, Condor has been making blades that are akin to swords and calling them machetes. Lol. For example. The condor combat machete is 3mm thick and convex sharpened on both sides. No flat or V grind here. I also have the condor parang on the way. 1/4 inch thick 1075 high carbon steel heat treated and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of about 54 with a convex edge and distal taper. Pretty much a sword substitute. No flimsy, thin crap metal machetes here :).

Oh no, never had flimsy thin machetes when I was a kid, you could hack through some good overgrowth. Had to keep them oiled nicely and wrapped in the tropics though.

Might I ask what you're doing with all these...um...collectables?

I'm posting here, yes. I'm not taking part in zombie apocalypse activity that's going on around here, though.

I like sharp pointy things. :) Unfortunately, customs legislation in my country makes it an extremely frustrating and expensive endeavour to import swords. However, any old fart can import a machete and walk down the street with it. Because obviously one sharp pointy thing can be used as a weapon whilst the other sharp pointy thing cannot *insert sarcasm here*

As such, I usually import quality made machetes with proper thickness, carbon steel range, heat treatment and a distal taper and then I use my dremel to reshape it. I also use a homemade irrigation system (hose in a clamp aimed at the blade) while cutting to preserve the temper and keep the blade cool. I follow up with a wet belt sander and whetstones to create a narrow convexed edge and voilà! A sword is born.

Some of my colleagues and I gather every Saturday to do test cutting on bottles, tatami, etc and we follow that up with some beastly cold beers. Perfect way to release the tension of a hectic week ;).

These are a few of my mods that are still works in progress.

And another one that needs to be finished ( need to make a chrome endcap and polish the blade with some 6000 grit sandpaper)

P.S. there is no belly on the blade near the guard. The reflection from the camera flash just made it look that way.
